Bluegrass Bios 070717 Hour 1 – Alice Jones (EKU Applachian Studies)

Eastern Kentucky University's Director of Applachian Studies, Dr. Alice Jones, has spent the past year researching sisters Lucy and Annette Braun, pioneers of conservation and they literally wrote the book on Appalachian forests (Deciduous Forests of Eastern North America). Dr. Jones wrote a one-woman play based on their lives called “Sisters of the Mother Forest.”

Dr. Patrick Angel, Senior Forester in the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement and Michael French, Director of Operations at Green Forests Work stop by Bluegrass Bios to talk about the joint efforts of Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative & Green Forests Work to plant native hardwood trees on compacted coal mine sites and provide local jobs to equipment operators, nursery workers, and tree planters in Eastern Kentucky and beyond.
